The village of Meride was the birth place of stucco decorators and painters of remarkable fame who, because of the poverty of the area during the 16th and 17th centuries, had to emigrate to Germany, France and Russia. During the winter they used to come back home and work at their own houses. Walking through the little streets and the courtyards of Meride you can discover works of remarkable value.
