The earliest mention of the Church of Saint Sisino dates back to 1213, however we are sure that the Church already existed some years before in the form of a Chapel, and was included in the old castle (the dwelling of the Torriani family), which was part of the defence system of the Alpine region. This imposing fortress dominated from the upper area of Mendrisio and extended to the road leading to Balerna through Corgelia and Gorla. Two exhibition areas for precious objects (furnishings, relics, documents, ornaments) which the Priors of the Tower handed down through the centuries have been made out of what was originally the Parish Room of Saint Sisino.
In the Christmas period the Eighteenth century crib, one of the few cribs in Ticino in popular folk style, is set up in the Church; it originates from Munich in Bavaria.
