The Cantoni House is one of the most significant buildings in the Muggio Valley and is without doubt of great historical and architectural importance.
The Cantonis from Cabbio were esteemed architects and stucco decorators, who worked a lot especially in Genoa from the 16th century onwards. The 18th century house, which is more a mansion than a house, at least on the outside, both from the point of view of the disposition of the masses as of the architecture, which makes one think of the city plains rather than the harsh mountain. Inside, in the salon, there is an 18th century stuccoed mantelpiece. The pictorial decorations which can be seen on the ceiling are probably of the same period. The rusticated design on the main facades arouses just as much interest from the point of view of pictorial decoration.
Today Cantoni House is the seat of the Ethnographic Museum of the Muggio Valley and information centre of the “Area Museum”. It has a room equipped for lectures, seminars, projections (slides, VHS, DVD, PC) and a laboratory suitable for lessons and crafts courses as well as the show rooms.
