Trekking and Nordic walking, sport and nature for everyone!

In 2005 WWF – Ticino developed a concept of eco-tourism for the Mendrisiotto and Lower Ceresio Region and on the occasion of its 30th anniversary decided to create a series of paths intended mainly for fans of trekking and nature; here a high number of Emerald species and environments have been preserved.

The Emerald Path winds its way from the FFS railway station in Mendrisio and crosses most of the green areas in the Mendrisiotto, from Monte San Giorgio to the Motta Valley and from the Park of the Breggia Gorge up to Monte Generoso. From here you can continue to Caprino and reach Lugano by lake or else close the circuit by going down to Mendrisio through the magnificent vineyards of the Colle degli Ulivi in Corteglia.

The hiker who covers the nine stages of the Emerald Trekking paths will be able to enjoy a panorama of 360° over the whole area south of the bridge dam in Melide!

The Emerald Trekking trail is “gentle” and enables visitors to build up their knowledge of a territory rich in contrasts; it leads them to discover the true nature of the area, unlike those who dash along the north-south axis which crosses the Region. It is a trekking trail which is unique at cantonal level in its genre and for the wealth of its naturalistic contents, which will probably surprise most visitors!

The project is intended for lovers of nature, of hiking and trekking of all ages, for tourists in search of emotions and genuine tastes and for the local population, who are invited to re-discover their own territory for example by doing Nordic Walking.
