The association Musica nel Mendrisiotto has been organising concerts for over 30 years. They take place throughout the year in the most beautiful locations in the area and range from ancient music to contemporary, from chamber music to choral, right through to music that goes beyond the boundaries of classical music into ethnic or jazz. International and local guests work together to guarantee a high level of quality performances.
There are 10 dates throughout the year in Mendrisio, the main town in the area, usually on a Sunday morning at the Art Museum and these are followed by local wine tasting.
The Cinema Teatro in Chiasso, thanks to the great acoustics of Piazza Maggiore and the big Magna room of the Scuole Medie, hosts a theatrical prgramme that successfully unites both music and images.
Ancient music, played on original instruments in accordance with the principles of philology has always been important to the association and is often performed in the many local churches. There are many open air performances during the summer in the cool Valle of Muggio and in Chiostro dei Serviti in Mendrisio.
