The alpine economy has partly been abandoned because of the steady decline in population, which in half a century has reduced the already small population by half. Little is known about its past. In the 16th century the village was part of the community of Cabbio, but presumably some little settlement of mountain folk must have lived here in earlier times. In the ancient geographic descriptions the above-mentioned rural community was represented by the name of "Cassina" (which are the communal farmsteads of Cabbio) and then became Casima. During the summer months the village is brought to life by the presence of many families who spend their holidays in pleasant, healthy surroundings in this sunny position, merged in natural surroundings. From 01.04. 2004 Casima has become a hamlet of Castel San Pietro. Interesting buildings: Parish church of St. Maria and St. Carlo Borromeo, a small longitudinal building rebuilt in 1823. Excursions: Trails on the sides of Monte Generoso, or descents into the valley and climbs up to the villages on the left side. Arched stone bridge over the river Breggia.
