This village is perched on a rise of Monte Bisbino and overlooks Chiasso.
It was first mentioned in the 14th century, but was certainly inhabited by hill-folk before then.
Thanks to its desirable location, some families chose to leave the plains in the second half of the 20th century and build new homes here.
A number of well known figures were born in the village: the Fontanas, who distinguished themselves as theologians and educators, the painters Spinelli, Suā and Chiesa, as well as Ticinos most important writer and poet, Francesco Chiesa.
Interesting buildings:
Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel (18th c., architect Simone Cantoni, on older foundations which include a Roman bell tower, which still stands.).
House of the Chiesa family, typical 19th c. bourgeois construction.
Parish house next to the church, including the remains of an older building, which contains the library of the Abbot Fontana.
Excursions:
Several trails lead to Monte Bisbino.
