A village in the Muggio Valley, Cabbio is mentioned in the 12th century but is certainly older. For a while in the 19th century it was the county seat.
Sheep-rearing is still practised but it has diminished considerably as can be seen by the abandonment of the hamlet of Gaggio, once a home for shepherds, and now little more than a pile of stones.
The village is surrounded by vast empty spaces, whose difficult access only increases its charm.
It is the home of the Cantoni family of artists, including Simone (see Muggio).

Interesting buildings:
Parish Church of the Ascension or of St. Salvatore (1740-1780), according to the plans of Raffaele Agustoni, façade by Simone Cantoni (1807).
Chapel of St. Antonio del Gaggio (1716).
Ancient family house of the Cantonis (1692).
Public fountain in neoclassical style planned by the architect, Luigi Fontana of Muggio (1844).
